It has become fashionable these days to be present on social networking platforms. If someone does not have a digital existence, then for many people, they simply do not exist.

Digital Saturation Among Youth

The digital saturation and the desire for an extraordinary online profile affect youth in a significant way. Teens spend an average of 7 to 9 hours a day on entertainment screen media overall — including video, gaming, and browsing — according to Common Sense Media’s teen media census, a range also cited in the U.S. Surgeon General’s 2023 Advisory on social media and youth mental health. Within that broader figure, social media use specifically averages about 4.8 hours a day (Gallup, 2023).
